On September 19, 1991, German hikers found the body of recent deceased mountain, preserved mummy, which had been encased in ice for over 5,300 years


On September 19, 1991, while hiking in the Ötztal Valley in the Austrian Alps, German hikers Erika and Helmut Simon stumbled upon what they initially thought was the body of a recently deceased mountain climber. 

However, it turned out that this was a remarkably preserved mummy, later named Ötzi, which had been encased in ice for over 5,300 years.

Researchers analyzing Ötzi concluded that he likely met a violent end due to an arrowhead found lodged in his left shoulder and other injuries on his body, suggesting he was the victim of murder.

Motel Manager James Brock pours Muriatic Acid in the Monson Motor Lodge Pool to evict black swimmers, 1964. The pool at this motel was designated “white only”. Whites who paid for motel rooms invited blacks to join them in the motel pool as their guests. This swim-in was planned by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, and two associates. The motel manager, Jimmy Brock, in an effort to break up the party, poured a bottle of muriatic acid into the pool, hoping the swimmers would become scared and leave.  This famous photograph by Horace Cort shows a group of white and black integrationists in the former Monson Motor Lodge swimming pool on June 18, 1964. The photo was connected to the St. Augustine Movement, named for the town in Florida where it took place. Just moments after this image was captured, SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau was snatched into the jaws of the orca pictured here and brutally killed. Her body was then thrashed about over the course of 45 minutes while the horrified crowd helplessly looked on. The autopsy report said that Brancheau died from drowning and blunt force trauma. Her spinal cord was severed, and she had sustained fractures to her jawbone, ribs, and a cervical vertebra. Her scalp was completely torn off from her head, and her left elbow and left knee had been dislocated. Dawn worked with orcas at SeaWorld Orlando for fifteen years. She was killed by an orca called Tilikum. Tilikum was also involved in the deaths of two other people: Keltie Byrne and Daniel P. Dukes.
